Helping parents create a PowerSchoolID and connect to students

Steps to determine a contact's access to PowerSchool

A. Does the Contact/Parent have a Parent Portal Account?

  1. Find the student.
  2. Click on Access Accounts to see if a legacy (Parent Portal) account is already attached to the student. The image below is the Access Accounts page.

A. Does the Contact/Parent have a linked PowerSchool ID?

  1. Make sure access is granted for student and parent top checkbox for each record. Some new students my not be checked and will not be able to access PowerSchool.
  2. Check Parent Access Accounts - this student has four linked accounts, Elaine, Kassie, Lawrence and Michael.
  3. To check for a linked PowerSchool ID clickon the parents name. This opens the screen below. Notice the green bar on this record shows an active PowerSchool ID linked to the student.

C. Did the Contact/Parent create PowerSchool ID but not complete the process of linking students?

  1. Ask the contact/parent if they got the message Welcome to Unified Classroom. Your account is currently not connected to any students. PowerSchool ID accounts don't show in PowerSchool or Unified Classroom.

Completing the Link between Contact/Parent and Student

Use the information gathered above in A - C use the guide below to complete the linking process.
  • Scenario 1 - The Contact/Parent has a linked PowerSchool ID. There is a green bar under Web Account Access on the Contacts Screen Step B above. Everything is working, the parent may have forgotten their password or is trying to login to the wrong site goto https://classroom.powerschool.com. The username is the email and is displayed on the Contact Screen. 
  • Scenario 2 -  The Contact/Parent has a Parent Portal Account but not a PowerSchool ID. Start on step 1 of the guide and stop at step at step 11.
  • Scenario 3 -  The Contact/Parent do not have a Parent Portal Account but has the student's Access ID and password. Start on step 1 of the guide and skip steps 10 and 11, end on step 13.
  • Scenario 4 -  The Contact/Parent created a PowerSchool ID but did not complete the process and link the account to a student and has a Parent Portal Account. Start on step 6 of the guide and stop at step at step 11.
  • Scenario 5 -  The Contact/Parent created a PowerSchool ID but did not complete the process and link the account to a student and doesn't have a Parent Portal Account. Start on step 6 of the guide and skip steps 10 and 11, end on step 13.
  • Scenario 6 - The parent had a Parent Portal account for a student that graduated or left the district. To fix this, find the student in PowerSchool and go to Access Accounts. At the bottom click the Add New Contact. Choose the contact from the list and proceed to step 1.

Create a Contact/Parent PowerSchool ID linked to a Student 

  1. Go to https://classroom.powerschool.com/logout
  2. Go to https://psa.washk12.org/
  3. Click on Parent Sign In
  4. Down towards the bottom of the blue page that opens, click "Create an Account here" 
  5. Fill out the form with your first name, last name, email address, etc. 
  6. If it says the email has already been used 
    1. Go to https://classroom.powerschool.com/logout to clear the process, 
    2. Go to https://classroom.powerschool.com and skip to step 8. 
  7. A PowerSchool ID is created and the the login screen for Unified Classroom opens. 
  8. Login with that email and password you set. You can return to this step anytime by going to https://classroom.powerschool.com.
  9. You will see the screen below with two buttons.
    1. If the Contact/Parent has a Parent Portal Account (Scenario 2) Choose "I have a username and password in my district's PowerSchool Parent Portal" and move to step 10, purple text. 
    2. If he Contact/Parent doesn't a Parent Portal Account (Scenario 3) Choose "I Have a Student Access Code" and skip to Step 12, dark orange text.
  10. Enter the username and password the Contact/Parent used to use to get into the legacy Parent Portal. (School Staff can reset the password in PowerSchool - Contacts - Access Accounts.) 
  11. After clicking next, the process is complete. The Contact/Parent will have access to at least one of your students. 
  12. Enter the Student Name, Access ID and Password to link a student. 
  13. Then click Add Another Student or Continue, The link is complete. 

Successful Unified Classroom Link

The Contact/Parent now has access to the linked student(s). From this point on the Contact/Parent will goto https://classroom.powerschool.com to login to the account. The username is the PowerSchool ID or email address.

To view Parent Portal screens click on Quick Links at the bottom of the left menu in UC. Choose Current Grades and Attendance for the default screen. The Parent Portal will open in a new tab in the browser,
